The recent shift in Microsoft's strategy was triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, which fundamentally changed how and where people work overnight. In April 2022, the company acknowledged this change at its hybrid work event. Interestingly, Microsoft initially considered rolling out these changes as a Windows 10 update but decided against it.

Windows 10 was previously touted as the last version of Windows, but that has now been contradicted. You can even purchase a disc version or pre-loaded USB stick for £99 on Amazon UK. The easiest option is via a download link sent after completing the purchase.

For the first time, you can buy Windows 11 as a standalone operating system. Additionally, Android apps are now available through the Amazon Appstore, although using the Google Play Store requires a workaround that is no longer functional.

Windows 11 on tablets has been significantly improved with the introduction of gestures and an updated on-screen keyboard similar to those found on smartphones. You can also take advantage of enhanced grouping and snapping features for more effective multitasking.

The new widgets panel replaces Live Tiles in the Start Menu, offering weather forecasts, stock updates, news, and more. Rounded corners are now ubiquitous throughout the operating system, along with a centralized Start Menu that can be returned to its original side placement if preferred.
